Powick Community Choir, under the musical direction of Tom Wells, has been growing and developing since its beginnings in early 2010. We draw our members from a wide local area and hold rehearsals on Sunday afternoons between 4.15 pm – 5.45 pm in Powick Village Hall and on Thursday evenings between 6.30 pm – 8 pm in Callow End School. Our membership rarely drops below 70 and we sing an eclectic range of music from choral classic to music from stage and screen. We also enjoy singing music written by our Musical Director and are regularly able to perform with a professional orchestra.
We have performed in a wide variety of venues: Malvern Priory, Malvern Theatres, Worcester Cathedral, St. Mary’s Church Kempsey, and Pershore Abbey, to name but a few, and each December hold our ever popular Christmas concert at Stanbrook Abbey, Callow End (5 Christmas concerts) to sell-out audiences. The choir raises thousands of pounds for local charities.
In 2017 we entered the Upton Choir Festival, the first competition we have ever entered. We were proud to be awarded the Judges Prize for the Best Performance. In 2018 we went one better at Upton and were awarded the prize for the 'Most Outstanding Choir'
